Accredited by The Nautical Institute, our Training philosophy is to offer a wide range of working DP simulators combined with highly skilled sea-going instructors in order to pass the knowledge in the best possible way to prospective DPO's.

DP INDUCTION COURSE

Basic or induction course is intended to provide theory and practice of Dynamic Positioning to perspective DPO‘s. The course must fulfill the requirements of Phase A of the Nautical Institute Scheme.

At Apave Mare we provide participants with both, knowledge and practical use of dynamic positioning system. Induction course covers topics such as: DP Control station; Power generation and management; Propulsion units; Position reference systems (PRS); Heading and motion reference systems; Environmental reference systems; External force reference systems; DP operations; Practical operation of a DP system.

DP SIMULATOR COURSE

This course is intended to build on the DP experience obtained in Phases A and B of the Nautical Institute Scheme and involves principally simulated DP operations including errors, faults and failures giving the participants the opportunity to apply the lessons learnt in both the Basic/Induction course and the sea-going DP familiarisation. This course covers topics such as: Practical operation of the DP system, DP operation and emergency procedures.

Our team of Instructors is focused on passing their real world experience as sea-going DPO‘s to new candidates.

DP REVALIDATION COURSE

The course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO certificate from The NI but are unable to revalidate their DPO certificate if they have not gained sufficient DP sea time. The overall course aim is to update the DPO’s with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors, known DP incidents and lessons learned.
The Revalidation Course may be completed up to 6 months before the revalidation date set by The NI and will be valid for a period of 12 months only, in which the DPO must send in an application to the NI. If the participant is completing the course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time requirement.

DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course

The minimum entry requirement is a DPO Certificate issued by The NI. The original DPO Certificate should be presented at the DP centre where the DP Refresher Course is completed. If the DPO has 30 days or more DP sea time, then the DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course may be completed up to six months before the revalidation date set by The NI. The course will be valid for a period of 12 months only, in which the DPO must send an application to The NI.

DP VESSEL MAINTAINER COURSE (DPVM)

This course is designed to provide technical staff with the knowledge required to understand the redundancy concept for DP operations. The course is for technical staff that have a good knowledge of ships systems and therefore only covers the redundancy aspect of on-board systems to ensure safe DP operations.

The course consists theory and practical exercises structured around the safe operation of DP Ships, DP classes, design of DP installations, propulsion machinery, auxiliary system, power generation machinery.
